Overcrowding crisis in London's schools
London’s schools are facing an overcrowding crisis.

Council figures out this week show the Capital’s schools need another 50,000 places to cope with a demand for places.

They’re blaming the crisis on a rising birth rate, bad housing market and parents choosing state education over public.

Croydon, Richmond and Kingston are among the worst. They need 2,000 additional places each over the next two years.

The whole cost for London could be as much as 1.5 billion pounds by 2018.

Kingston has tried to address the problem already.

A long fought-for secondary school is to be split between the Hawker Centre and North Kingston Centre creating a thousand new places.
