New Year Honours
Many people across South West London and Surrey have been honoured today.
Surrey Chief Constable Mark Rowley is awarded the Queens Police medal.
Headteacher of Lampton school in Hounslow Susan John is made a Dame.
Edward Gosling from Virginia Water gets a CBE for his services to the voluntary sector.
Getting OBE's are Patricia Stacey Henchie who was the headteacher at Lowther Primary school in Richmond and also Victoria Ransom from Epsom for her work with revenue and customs.
Former Rugby World cup winner Mike Catt from Sunbury gets an MBE – he's now one of the coaches at London Irish.

Wandsworth Council makes tunnel plea
Wandsworth council is urging residents to voice their concerns about the Thames Tunnel project.
It's making the plea before the public consultation ends in the middle of January.
The scheme, which is being developed by Thames Water, would create six major construction sites across Wandsworth and a seventh at Barn Elms Playing Fields on the boundary with Richmond.
Wandsworth Council says it has serious concerns about the proposed Thames Tunnel scheme.
Councillors say they remain unconvinced the tunnel is the best way of cleaning up the Thames.
They fear the huge environmental impacts will outweigh any potential improvements in water quality.

Weybridge most 'fertile' town in UK
The stalks have been busy in Weybridge.
The small Surrey town has been named as the most fertile town in Britain.
Over 2002-2008 the birth rate in Weybridge shot up by 20 per cent.

Ancelotti more optimistic
Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti says he feels the club's first league win in seven matches prevented them from slipping out of the race for the title.
Last night they beat Bolton 1-0 |over Bolton last night and close to within four points of leaders Manchester United.
The Italian says it was important to change the atmosphere, to change the trend, and to come back to win.

Surrey announces new bridge plans
Surrey Council has announced plans for a new, multi-million pound bridge to be built across the Thames.
The 32 million pound structure will provide a crossing between Walton and Shepperton – replacing two temporary bridges in the area.
It is the first major road crossing over the river in nearly twenty years and is due to be completed by 2013.

Calls to extend the law on dangerous dogs
There's a call to extend the law on dangerous dogs, following the mauling of a woman in Wallington.
Labour MP Willie Bain wants court ordered muzzles and neutering to apply to all breeds of dog, not just those listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act.
Last week, 52-year-old Barbara Williams was savaged to death in Wallington by a Belgian mastiff, a breed not currently deemed to be dangerous.

Two arrested in connection with Kingston robbery
Two men have been arrested in connection with an attempted robbery of a cash-in-transit van in Kingston.
Police were called to Thames Street just after 11 o clock this morning.
The men are being held at a South London police station, while detectives from the Flying Squad at Barnes investigate.

Some members at Wimbledon angry over Olympic tickets
Some members of the All England Lawn Tennis Club in Wimbledon are angry at the cost of attending the Olympic tennis events in 2012.
The club, which has 375 full members and is the venue for the annual Wimbledon tennis championships, is hosting the two-week Olympic event.
Members have been offered the chance to buy early bird tickets now –with prices as high as £225 for a pair.
Many are angry that this doesn’t include any concessions for members, especially as they will be prevented from using their clubhouse for six weeks during the period.
They have been told that alternative facilities will be available to them in nearby Aorangi Park.
The All England Tennis club was unavailable for comment.

Good news for Epsom and St Helier
Epsom, St Helier and Sutton Hospitals are celebrating their best ever performance after an evaluation by the Audit Commission.
The commission assesses how well all NHS trusts manage their resources each year.
The report shows that the Trust improved in four of the five key areas, including value for money and financial management.

Police are searching for a man missing from his home in New Malden.
49 year old Trevor Tribe was last seen in Rodney Road last night.
He's white about 6 foot 2 with short grey hair.
It's believed he was wearing a black jacket jeans and white trainers.

Warning to cashpoint users in Woking
Police are warning people across Woking to be careful after a number of thefts from cash points.
ATM's have been targetted in Horsell and St John's recently with the thieves using a 'Lebanese loop' to steal cards and personal details.
In one case a card user had 250 pounds stolen from his account.

Police say they are exploring every avenue to trace a man missing in Twickenham.
22 year old Oliver Giddings hasn't been seen since the end of November.
He's white about 5 foot 10 slim with short brown hair.
Detectives say he's known to go to Hayes and Hounslow and are appealing for any-one with information to contact them.

Police name Hayes shooting victim
Police have named a man shot dead in Hayes last Friday.
33 year old Anthony Dixon from West Drayton was found with multiple gunshot wounds to the chest in Marvell Avenue.
A murder investigation has been launched and anyone with information is asked to contact police.

Elmbridge is best for quality of life
Elmbridge has topped a table of boroughs offering the best quality of life in the UK.
It's the third year running that a Surrey borough has been named.
The list is based on statistics including life expectancy, health, crime and house size.
Research by the Halifax found that people in the Borough had a life expectancy of 81.4 years.

Police investigate attack in Mitcham
Police are appealing for witnesses following an attack in Mitcham.
A woman was walking along London Road when she was indecently assaulted.
The male attacker then fled towards the roundabout at the junction of London Road and Streatham Road.
The suspect is Asian, 5 feet 6 inches tall, 25 years old and was wearing a three quarter length dark coat and black beanie style hat.
Police would like to hear from anyone with information.

Millions of pounds of Council Tax uncollected across Surrey
Millions of pounds worth of council tax payments went uncollected in Surrey during a 12-month period.
Figures obtained in a Freedom of Information Act request showed borough and district councils failed to collect just over 10 million in 2010/2009.
Woking and Elmbridge were owed the most money, £1.7 and £1.5million pounds respectively.

It broke out in the property in Brookview Road on Christmas Day night.
