Complaints against Met Police are up
New figures show complaints against the Metropolitan Police have risen by 17% in a year.
They went from just over 6 thousand in 2008-09 to over 7 thousand in 2009-10.
The UK average rise was 8%.

Police recover large hauls of fake Viagra
UK border officials have intercepted major hauls of fake Viagra tablets.
They seized 8-point-5 million last year – worth about 13 million pounds.
Six million of those were found in freight deliveries at Heathrow Airport.

Police name man who died in Woking crash
A pedestrian who died after a collision in Woking has been formally identified as Vladimiro Capano.
The 43-year-old died at St George’s Hospital in Tooting on Sunday after the collision with a car on Triggs Lane last week.
An inquest into his death has been opened and adjourned.

Bobby Zamora is a doubt for Fulham's match with Man City on Sunday.
The striker fell awkwardly in training – and Boss Mark Hughes says he must wait 24 hours before he will know whether he's available for selection.
Zamora has only just made it back into the team after spending months of the sidelines after breaking his leg against Wolves.

England take on France in the Rugby 6 Nations this weekend at Twickenham.
Both teams are level on points at the top of the table having both won their opening games.
Our reporter Jake Robson has been speaking to England prop Dan Cole at the squad's training base in Surrey.

England will be without their captain for Saturday's massive rugby union Six Nations match with France.
Lewis Moody isn't fit enough even to make the bench, because of a knee injury.
Team manager Martin Johnson admits it's a major blow for both the player and the team.

England have made one change for Saturday's crunch match against France in the rugby union Six Nations at Twickenham - but there's no place in the squad for skipper Lewis Moody.
He's still struggling with a knee injury, meaning Mike Tindall keeps the captain's armband.
Andrew Sheridan is back in the side, while Alex Corbisiero drops to the bench.

Decisions on library services in Surrey put back
Plans to axe mobile library services in Surrey and devolve the running of 11 public libraries have been put on hold.
A decision to refer the plans back to Surrey County Council's cabinet has been passed.
Opposition groups have described the proposals as "disastrous and flawed".
A decision is now expected on the 1st of March.

Police alert drivers in Surrey
Police are warning drivers in Surrey to be on their guard after a spate of thefts of catalytic converters across the County.
Vehicles were targetted at various locations including Leatherhead,Cobham and Weybridge over the week-end.
In each case thieves targetted either people carriers or commercial vans in both public car parks and residential roads.

Pinewood Shepperton studios expands
Pinewood Shepperton studios is to operate a new set-up in the Dominican Republic.
Pinewood Indomina Studios is expected to start initial operations next year.
Construction begins today, with a ceremony performed by the President of the Dominican Republic.
Pinewood already operates in Toronto, Berlin and Malaysia.

Crash on the M25
A woman's suffered head injuries after a van and petrol tanker collided on the M25.
The crash happened between junctions 5 at the Clacket Lane services and 6 for Godstone, just before one o’clock.
The air ambulance made an emergency landing forcing the motorway to close completely for over an hour.
The motorway now has one lane closed.

Woman found with injuries on the M3
Police are re-appealing for information after a woman was found unconcious with life threatening injuries close to the M3 at Chertsey.
The woman in her forties was suffering from serious head,chest and leg injuries and remains in a very serious condition in hospital.
She was discovered lying at the side of the motorway in the early hours of Monday morning.
Police are urging any drivers who were on the M3 or Littleton Lane bridge area to come forward.

More jobs could be cut at Tooting Hospital
Unions have doubled their estimate of the number of NHS jobs that could be cut because of government spending cuts.
They say over 50-thousand posts - including frontline doctors, nurses and midwives - are due to be axed.
Last week it was announced 500 jobs at St George’s in Tooting and nearly as many at Kingston Hospital could go.
Anti-cuts campaigners False Economy say their findings go against claims that the health service would be protected.
But Health Secretary Andrew Lansley disputes the figures.
Surrey residents oppose planned closure of libraries
Surrey County Council’s Residents’ Association is calling on the government to scrap plans to close local libraries.
At a Select Committee meeting yesterday the proposal for libraries to be run by community groups or face closure was also rejected.
Eleven Surrey libraries including Ewell Court, Molesey, Stonleigh, Bagshot and Virginia Waters could be closed as a part of cost cutting measures.

Police make new appeals about Addlestone murder
Police investigating a man's murder in Addlestone are renewing their appeals for information 2 weeks on.
The body of 56 year old John Dowling was found at his home at Abell Court in Brighton Road.
A post mortem revealed he died from multiple injuries.
Police have now established he bought a meal from a local fish and chip shop in Station Road shortly before his death and headed home alone on foot.
This is the last confirmed sighting of Mr Dowling.
Detectives say they are following a number of lines of enquiries but are keen to hear from any-one who may have seen him between Thursday February 3rd and Saturday 5th.

Women fights off attacker in Chertsey
Police are appealing for witnesses following an attempted robbery in Chertsey late on Sunday night.
The victim, in her forties, was walking her dog when the attacker grabbed her and told to hand over her money and phone.
When she refused, he pushed her against the wall.
But the offender took off when the woman kicked him and her dog bit him.

Man robbed at knifepoint in Byfleet
Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was robbed at knifepoint in Byfleet.
The victim and a friend had asked two men for directions, when one of the offenders pulled out a weapon and demanded money.
The attack took place on Hopfield Avenue in the early hours of yesterday morning.
Both suspects are white and around 16.

Anti- terror officers search 5 addresses
Anti - terror officers are searching five properties across West London and Middlesex.
Search warrants were executed under the Anti Terrorism act, including at one address in Ealing Road in Brentford.
There's been no arrests.

France announce team to face England at Twickenham
France have made six changes for Saturday's 6 Nations crunch match with England at Twickenham.
Sebastien Chabal, Vincent Clerc, Dimitri Yachvil and Yannick Jauzion are all back.
France and England are the only teams who've won both of their games so far.
But the French coach Marc Lievremont has stoked the fires by saying "We don't like the English".

BAA reports big loss
Heathrow Airport operator BAA has reported a loss of 317 million pounds for 2010.
The pre-tax figure is an improvement on 2009’s loss of over 800 million.
BAA’s blaming disruption due to snow, strikes and volcanic ash for the loss.

Police issue warning in Sutton
Police are warning elderly residents after an 82-year old woman was conned out of 90 pounds.
The pensioner was approached by a man in his 30’s, who claimed she owed him money for work on her roof.
Despite never having any work done she handed the money over outside Carshalton Beeches train station last Thursday.
Sutton Police are advising elderly people to not hand over any money unless the workman has paperwork to support the claim.

AFC Wimbledon should have defender Ismail Yakubu back for tonight's clash with Wrexham.
He's been out for the last three weeks with a knee injury.
The Welsh side are likely to make wholesale changes after his side were thumped 7-2 at home by Gateshead on Saturday.

63 year old Bee Choo Low left without money or a phone and was found this morning in North London.
Police say she's safe and well.

Concern is growing for a woman missing from Epsom hospital for 2 days.
63 year old Bee Choo Low left without money or a phone.
Bee is 5 foot 1 with greyish shoulder length black hair and was wearing a bright green coat and grey jogging bottoms.
Police say it's possible she may appear confused and are urging any-one with any information to contact them.

England captain Lewis Moody has linked up with the squad ahead of Saturday's 6 Nations clash with France at Twickenham on Saturday.
He's back from a knee injury and played for his club Bath at the weekend.
The England team is due to be named on Thursday.

Chances of being a victim on transport in London reduce
The odds of being a victim of crime on London's transport network are at a six-year low.
Mayor Boris Johnson has hailed substantial falls in almost every type of offending on buses, trains, trams and the Tube.
New figures released by his office show there were 10-thousand-595 crimes on buses and 3-thousand-305 on the Tube last year.

New plans for Wandsworth
Plans to transform a long derelict site in Wandsworth Town have been approved.
The site which stretches more than a 100 metres along Garratt Lane is currently cut off from the street by a high security fence.
The completed scheme will eventually form a new wing of the Southside shopping centre forming three floors.

Investigation into fire in Clapham
Around 40 firefighters fought a blaze in a three storey bar in Clapham.
The fire broke out in Clapham Road in the early hours of yesterday morning.
All of the building’s floors and a roof was partly damaged by fire and smoke.
The cause of the fire is under investigation

Blues boss wants to stay on
Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti says he won’t quit – despite the Blues losing their hold on the FA Cup on Saturday.
With them 12 points behind leaders Manchester United in the league – they have just the Champions League to play for this season.
Reports this morning suggested Ancelotti may go back to Italy and manage Roma.
Former Chelsea boss Claudio Ranieri quit the club over the weekend.

A man has been arrested over a suspected gas explosion in Brentford.
Two men were injured following the blast on Carlyle Road yesterday morning.
Police haven’t said why the man, in his 60’s, has been arrested.
