Talented dancer loses fight for life after hit and run in Croydon

The 14 year old schoolgirl involved in a hit and run in Croydon last week has died from her injuries.

Alessia Boschiazzo was mown down by a green Renault Clio on Morland Road last Friday evening at 7 o'clock..

The dancer, who went to The Ursuline High School in Wimbledon Village, had won a place at the prestigious Brit School for September.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward. Flowers were last night left at the scene of the incident.
The driver has been described as a white man in his twenties with short hair.

Sutton Schools Go Green
Sutton's schools have proved their green credentials.

Half in the borough have achieved an award in the Eco-Schools initiative and another 18 percent are working toward that goal.

To qualify, schools must become more sustainable, with pupil-run teams to carry out improvements.

The awards come in three levels and the local authority wants all of its schools at the top achievement within 5 years.

Council Tax Freeze in Merton
Merton Council's freezing Council Tax for the coming year despite having to make £24 million in savings.

It's faced with more than a 13 percent cut in their Government grant for 2011/12.

Top priorities for the borough are to protect services for younger and older residents and the voluntary services.

Improvements in Wimbledon town centre will still to go ahead along with refurbishment planned for Wimbledon Park Water Sports Centre.

The main savings will come from administration changes and procurement processes.

Fulham boss wants 'goal cameras'
We should introduce goal line technology, according to Fulham boss Mark Hughes.

FIFA officials are meeting tomorrow to discuss bringing it in to help referees.

It comes after the furore caused by Frank Lampard’s disallowed goal against Germany at the World Cup,

The Cottagers boss says he favours it.

Good news for Surrey and Borders Trust
More compliments than complaints.

Surrey and Borders NHS Foundation Trust has received a glowing report from its patients and carers.

It received over 100 compliments between October and December last year, out numbering complaints by 4 to 1.

The Trust’s mental health services got the most positive feedback.

Officer to face misconduct charge
A police officer involved in the shooting of barrister Mark Saunders in Chelsea is facing misconduct action.

It's for telling a senior officer he'd inserted song titles into his inquest evidence.

An investigation concluded that the officer hadn't inserted song titles –
but had brought the Police Service into disrepute for suggesting that he had.

Epsom hospital gets new machine
A new £200,000 X-ray machine has been opened at Epsom hospital.

It will be used to detect conditions such as hernias, hip problems and kidney stones.

It now means patients can have a wider range of tests at the hospital, and not have to travel further afield for treatment.

5 arrests after Surrey police raids
Five people in Surrey have been arrested by police on suspicion of drugs and weapons offences.

200 police officers took part in early morning raids at nine properties in Egham, Lyne, Ottershaw, Chertsey and Shepperton.

A large amount of cash and prohibited weapons was seized by police.

The Fulham striker twisted his ankle in training last week – But Boss Mark Hughes says he could be in the 11 to face his former club.

Car park rent free for WWF
Woking Borough Council has agreed to let a wildlife charity use one of it's sites rent free for 20 years.

WWF is set to build its new HQ on the Brewery Road car park.

The new building will be constucted on stilts with parking beneath.

Man in court accused of sex attacks in South London
The trial of a man accused of a series of sex attacks and burglaries on elderly victims in South London is underway.

Delroy Grant is accused of the offences over a 17 year period.

The 53 year old is charged with attacks in Warlingham ,Shirley and Addiscombe.

He denies the charges at Woolwich Crown Court.

New row on Tube
A fresh safety row on London Underground has flared when union leaders claimed that changes to safety inspections will lead to delays for passengers.

The RMT's warned of "Tube chaos" because of plans in an internal document to cut inspections from two to one a week.

Transport for London says it's "preposterous" to suggest that the change would have any impact on safety standards.

Police make appeals after hit and run in Croydon
More details have emerged over a hit and run in Croydon last week.

Alessia Boschiazzo was catapulted across Morland Road by the force of the green Renault Clio –which was being driven by a man at the time.

The 14 year old is a pupil at Ursuline High School in Wimbledon Village.

She is set to take up a place at the Brit School in Croydon. She remains in intensive care.

Police want any witnesses to the incident at 7pm last Friday, to come forward.

Chelsea star guilty of speeding
Frank Lampard has pleaded guilty to speeding in Surrey.

The Chelsea midfielder was caught going over the 50 mile an hour limit in his Range Rover on the A3 in Claygate.

Another hearing has been scheduled for next week.

New fast art unveiled in Weybridge


An unusual display has been unveiled today at Mercedes Benz World in Brooklands near Weybridge.

It's a formula one car that's hanging from wires in the ceiling that's split up into three thousand pieces.

Mercedes Benz formula one team manager Nick Fry was there to see the new artwork unveiled.

4 rescued from Sutton house fire
An investigation's underway after a house fire in Sutton.

The blaze at the property in Holland Avenue damaged part of the ground floor including the kitchen.

Two adults and two children had to be rescued from the first floor bedroom by firefighters using a ladder.

All were taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.

Police appeal for help to find missing woman
Surrey Police are appealing for sightings of a 35 year old woman missing from her home in Capel since Friday.

Sarah Rogers is white, around 5feet 7inches tall and of slim build.

She has two distinctive tattoos: One on her right wrist and one on her upper arm with the word ‘Chelsea’.

Police are growing increasingly concerned for her welfare – and are asking people with any information to get in touch.

Police name M3 victim
The man who died in a hit and run on the M3 near Chertsey on Sunday's been named.

Police now want to trace a red sports car thought to be a mazda which left the scene of the crash.

60 year old John Witty from Coulsdon, died after his car left the road and crashed into an embankment.

Two more charged with murder
Two more men have been charged with the murder of a missing man from Surrey.

Police believe Jesse Richards was abducted while in Worcestershire in July 2009. His body has not been found.

Two men from Coventry, have been charged with his murder and will appear before magistrates.

A rise in drivers using mobiles at the wheel in Surrey
The number of drivers caught using a mobile phone while at the wheel in Surrey is up.

Around 3 thousand 800 people were caught last year – compared to just over 3 thousand the year before.

Police say they will take a robust approach to enforcing the law.

Protests in Richmond and Kingston
A demo will take place tonight outside Richmond Council and also Surrey County Council.

The GMB union will be protesting about the closure of Tangley Hall and Twickenham Day Centres.

They will also be lobbying about 13 million pounds worth of cuts hitting local councils across Surrey.

Police make appeals to trace missing man
Police are appealing for help in tracing a vulnerable man who has been missing from Twickenham since Sunday.

34 year old Daniel Pearce was last seen at his parents in Twickenham.

Enquiries have suggested that he may have left the area.

Daniel is white, approximately 5 foot 11 inches tall with brown eyes and a slim build.

Anyone who has seen him should call Kingston Police.

The Irish are coming to Twickenham.

The 2012 athletics team have announced they will be using St Mary's Unmiversity College as a training camp.

The team say they are impressed by the facilities and support services available.

Man sentenced for Croydon murder
A man found guilty of murdering a 16-year-old boy at a birthday party in Croydon has been jailed for life.

Wesley Sterling was stabbed in the heart as he tried to get back into the party at the Croydon sports arena last April following a fight outside

28 year old Carleto Salmons from Thornton Heath denied murder but was convicted yesterday.

The judge ordered he serves a minimum of 20 years.

Murder investigation underway in Streatham Hill
A post mortem has found that a man who died in Streatham Hill suffered stab wounds.

Police were called on Sunday night to Tilson Gardens.

The man who's believed to be in his thirties was pronouced dead at the scene.

A murder investigation is underway.

Fulham boss apologises
Fulham manager Mark Hughes has apologised for his spat with Manchester City counterpart Roberto Mancini.

The Cottagers boss angrily withdrew his handshake after Mancini failed to look at him when they came together at full-time.

Hughes says he apologises if he offended anyone.

A first for Battersea and Blue Peter
Blue Peter's Helen Skelton has become the first person to walk a tightrope between the famous chimneys at Battersea Power Station

The 27-year-old walked the 150-metre stretch above the building on a high-wire in just 11 minutes earlier.

She spent a number of weeks training in France before taking on the challenge which is in aid of Red Nose Day.

Robbers jailed for 40 offences across South West London
A team of prolific armed robbers who struck across South West London have been jailed for a combined total of 45 years.

The gang of five carried out 40 robberies over 8 weeks targetting pubs, off licences and bookmakers including premises in Clapham and Balham.

During the attacks the masked gang, brandishing handguns threatened to kill staff if their demands were not met.

Police say they are pleased this ruthless violent ream have been removed from the streets of South London.

Man guilty of murder in Croydon
A man's been found guilty of murdering a 16-year-old boy at a birthday party in Croydon.

BA computer expert guilty of plot
A former British Airways computer expert at Heathrow has been found guilty of plotting to blow up a plane.

Woolwich Crown Court heard how 31-year old Rajib Karim used his position at the airline to conspire with wanted terrorist Anwar al-Awlaki.

The court heard how the pair embarked on a secret meeting at Terminal 5 to discuss their plans.

Karim has also been convicted of four counts of engaging in preparation for terrorist attacks.

CCTV image of missing Addlestone man released
Police hope a CCTV image of a man missing from Addlestone will help in the hunt to find him.

Graham Horton, who suffers from dementia, hasn’t been seen since Friday morning.

The 65-year-old is white with short dark hair, a full beard and is around 6 feet tall.

He was last seen wearing a green jacket and dark trousers.

Police to investigate Chelsea footballer shooting claims
Surrey Police have confirmed they're investigating reports Chelsea footballer Ashley Cole accidentally shot a work experience student.

The club says they're taking "appropriate action".

It's claimed Cole fired a point-two-two air rifle without realising it was loaded at the Blues Cobham training ground.

It's thought the alleged victim didn't require hospital treatment.

Teenager to appear in court over Croydon bus stabbing
A 14 year old boy will appear in court today charged with stabbing another boy on a bus in Purley.

The youngster, who can’t be named, will appear at Croydon Crown Court charged with grievous bodily harm.

Staff from a nearby estate agent discovered the 17 year old victim bleeding heavily early on January 14th.

He’d been stabbed twice with a kitchen knife but later recovered.
