Happy Days in East Molesey



The Happy Days Festival rolled into town this afternoon.

Festival goers saw a host load of stars today including reggae favourites Aswad and Billy Ocean [pictured wowing the fans with his hits Love Really Hurts and Red Light Spells Danger].

Tomorrow's event will see the likes of ABC, Tony Hadley, Imagination and Nik Kershaw take to the stage.

Tickets can be bought on the door from 11am.

Vicious attack in Brixton
Police are appealing for witnesses to a vicious attack in Brixton.

A man was hit over the head with a blunt object at about 11 o'clock last night on the Brixton Road at the junction of Coldharbour Lane.

The area was sealed off for much of today.

It's believed the man may have been involved in an altercation with another group of men just before the attack.

Man dies in Ealing
A man has died after falling out of a car on the A40.

It's believed he fell from the vehicle at speed just after midnight.

He wasn't found until 7am.

He was taken to hospital where he later died. Police are appealing for witnesses.

Man attacked in Wimbledon
A 27 year old man has been slashed across the face in an attack in Wimbledon.

Police were called to Alexandra Road just after 4pm.

One man has been arrested.

Officers are asking any witnesses to call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 .

England give debuts to five new players at Twickenham
Five uncapped players have been named in England's starting fifteen to face the Barbarians at Twickenham on Sunday.

Harlequins prop Joe Marler, Worcester lock Graham Kitchener, Exeter flanker Tom Johnson and Sale's Carl Fearns all feature in the pack.

Gloucester's Henry Trinder will play at outside centre.

Epsom man admits two robberies
A man from Epsom has admitted two counts of robbery.

21 year old Luke Young pleaded guilty to the charges at Guildford Crown Court.

He's been remanded in custody and will be sentenced next month.

He was arrested in March following a police appeal for his whereabouts.

Police investigate fatal crash in Battersea
Police are appealing for witnesses to a fatal road traffic collision in Battersea.

It involved a taxi, motorcycle and a man and happened on Battersea Park Road.

The man who died had been named as 64 year old Desmond Tobin from Battersea.

A post mortem will be held today.

Two women injured in Morden
Detectives are appealing for witnesses after two women were seriously injured by a car thief in Morden.

One of the women had advertised a silver Audi A3 for sale.

The suspect called at the house in Dorset Road on Tuesday night and while inspecting the car locked himself inside.

He then accelerated off the driveway deliberately driving at one woman and then over the other.

The suspect's a black man- about 35 - stocky and has a distinctive scar on his face.

Camilla's fish pie goes down a treat in East Molesey
The Duchess of Cornwall has commended Surrey's Meals on Wheels services while visiting a community centre in East Molesey.

The Duchess met volunteers and recipients of meals on wheels at the East Molesey centre while the Hairy Bikers served up lunch earlier.

They even recreated her own fish pie recipe.

After the tour of the centre, Prince Charles visited nearby Painshill Park to help commemorate 30 years of hard work and restoration.

The visits are all part of the couple's whirlwind tour of Surrey.

Consultant from Kingston Hospital may be questioned in Madeleine McCann review
Met Police Commissioner Sir Paul Stephenson is to face questions over missing Madeleine McCann.

The review will look closely at the moments before and after the 3 year old vanished.

It’s not yet clear whether members of the so called 'Tapas 9' will be asked to contribute information.

The name refers to the friends of Kate and Gerry who were dining with them on the night of the disappearance.

One of them, Dr Matthew Oldfield, a consultant at Kingston Hospital, was the last person to check on the McCann children that night.

He didn’t, however, check to see if Madeleine was in her bed.

Kingston treadmill marathon raises over a thousand pounds for local hospice
The Shooting Star Chase Childrens’ Hospice is celebrating today after one of its supporters completed a mammoth feat.

David Hegarty has raised over a thousand pounds for the charity by running a marathon on the spot.

He spent just under four hours on a treadmill in the Bentall Centre in Kingston at the weekend.

The hospice cares for youngsters with life limiting illnesses who won’t reach their 19th birthday.

Justice served for burgled pensioner
A man in Horsell is to spend over 2 years behind bars for burgling a pensioner’s home.

43 year old William Chapman forced his way in to the victims’ home during a night in March.

The homeowner was asleep while he rummaged through their bedroom.

Officers investigating traced Chapman via a footprint he left at the scene.

No animals harmed in fire at Battersea dogs home
A fire has broken out at the world famous Battersea Dogs and Cats’ Home.

The blaze started in a laundry room in a ground floor building just after 8 o’clock this morning.

Thirty five people were evacuated before fire crews arrived.

One woman was treated for smoke inhalation – no animals were injured.

More cuts in Surrey
Surrey is axing the subsidy for transport to and from faith schools.

Pupils joining a denominational school in September next year won't be able to travel at a reduced price.

It had been costing the council 2 million pounds a year.

Wandsworth makes Olympic plea
Wandsworth council is urging Transport for London to minimise disruption during August’s Olympic cycle race test event.

And they have urged TfL to make more detailed information available now about road closures and diversions.

Around 100 cyclists will take part in the race on Sunday August 14.

The route stretches from the Mall, through south west London, parts of Surrey to Box Hill and back again.

The event, called the London Surrey Cycle Classic, is following exactly the same route as the Olympic cycle road race next year and is being held to help iron out any problems.

Pensioner dies after crash in Bookham
A pensioner involved in a road traffic collision in Bookham has died in hospital.

The collision yesterday on the Leatherhead Road involved a black Audi and a stationary blue Nissan which was parked in a lay-by.

The 73-year-old driver of the Audi, a local man, was taken to hospital where he died last night.

A woman passenger suffered minor injuries.The stationary vehicle was empty at the time of the collision.

Milly Dowler trial latest
A court's heard the man accused of murdering Milly Dowler "disappeared" on the day the schoolgirl was kidnapped.

Levi Bellfield denies abducting and murdering the 13-year-old in Walton and attempting to kidnap another girl in Shepperton in March 2002.

His ex-girlfriend Emma Mills has told the Old Bailey she'd been trying to get through to him but his mobile phone was off.

UPDATE: MISSING MAN FOUND SAFE AND WELL

Police are appealing for help in tracing a man who is missing from the Ealing area.

Bernard McHugh was last seen on Sunday at approx 5pm near his home in Castlebar Hill.

79 year old Bernard is white with white hair. He is approximately 6ft tall and was last seen wearing a smart suit. He walks with a tall metal crutch.

Bernard suffers from dementia and his family and officers are growing increasingly concerned for his welfare.

Hiddink and Van Basten to form Chelsea dream team?
It looks like we may know who Chelsea’s next manager will be.

Previous boss Carlo Ancelotti was sacked at the weekend after two seasons in charge at Stamford Bridge.

Jez Walters, from the club’s unofficial website CFC.net, told Jackie News who he believes will take over.

Celebrations continue as AFC Wimbledon make it back to the football league


Praise is continuing to come in for AFC Wimbledon after they earned promotion to the football league on Saturday.

The Dons won promotion from the Blue Square Conference after a dramatic 4-3 penalty shoot out win over Luton Town.

Radio Jackie's John Creasey was at the City of Manchester stadium.



Meanwhile Merton’s Conservative councillors say it’s ‘fantastic news’ for the club and the borough.

While former Wimbledon FA Cup winning manager Bobby Gould gave his reaction to Jackie's George Alderman.

Police hunt man in Mitcham

Police are appealing as to the whereabouts of a man who's suspected of carrying out a sex attack in Mitcham.

The man known as 'Yao' is alleged to have attacked the 16 year old girl at a residential address in Manor Road in October.

Police say they have information that he was seen in the Thornton Heath area in December and January.

He's Ghanaian about 5 foot 4 with a balding head.

Lewis Hamilton positive ahead of Monaco
Lewis Hamilton believes McLaren can increase the pressure on Red Bull at this weekend's Monaco Grand Prix.

The Woking driver finished only half a second behind Red Bull's race winner Sebastian Vettel in Barcelona yesterday.

He says it's positive going into Monaco, where the driver can make a difference.

Police offer reward in Wandsworth murder investigation
Detectives investigating the murder of 47-year old Leroy Burnett in Wandsworth are offering a 20 thousand pound reward for information.

An investigation was launched after police were alerted in November last year to a maisonette on fire in Crichton Street.

The body of Mr Burnett was found inside the property and a post-mortem gave the cause of his death as head injuries.

He was last seen walking his brown Staffordshire terrier dog in Wandsworth Road shortly before.

Police try to trace man missing in Esher
Police are appealing for help to trace the family of a man missing from Esher.

French national John Herbert hasn’t been seen since leaving his house on Ember Lane last Wednesday.

It’s thought he had an argument with the person he was staying with before he left.

The 49 year old has connections in Surrey, Suffolk and Devon.

England name squad for Twickenham clash
The England rugby union squad's been named for Sunday's traditional end-of-season match against the Barbarians at Twickenham.

As expected, it's a blend of youth and experience.

6 members of Harlequins' European Challenge Cup-winning side are included, as are 5 players from Premiership semi-finalists Gloucester.

Savings plan for Epsom and St.Helier
Epsom and St Helier hospitals have set out savings plans that could see the loss of 115 posts including 26 doctors.

The NHS Trust has begun a 90-day consultation with staff and unions.

It said it wanted to save just over 18 million pounds by March next year but would still be left with a 19 million pound deficit at the end of the financial year.

The public sector Unison hasn't yet commented on the plans.

Police investigate fatal crash in West Byfleet
Two men have been arrested after a cyclist died in hospital following a collision with a vehicle in West Byfleet.

The cyclist was taken to St Peter's Hospital after the crash on Parvis Road last night.

The two men arrested are from Woking.

Police are appealing for anyone with information about the accident to come forward.

Hughes hopeful for Fulham
Fulham manager Mark Hughes is hopeful his side's will still qualify for Europe next season.

The spot he's hoping for goes to the top-ranked side in the Premier League's Fair Play table that has not qualified for Europe.

Fulham occupied that place going into the final day but Zoltan Gera was sent off in the 2-2 draw yesterday with Arsenal.

Hughes says he doesn't think it will have any bearing on our standing.

Marco Van Basten, Gus Hiddink and Jose Mourinho are three of the names being linked with the Chelsea manager's job.

The Blues sacked Carlo Ancelotti last night after the club finished second in the Premiership – but failed to win any silverware this season.

The 51 year old had more than a year left on his contract.
