Free parking
The Richmond Card is available to anyone living in the borough.
Residents can use it while out and about to take advantage for half an hour’s free parking.
So far, 16,000 have been issued.

Search for Suspect in Addlestone Assault
Police need help to find the person who hit a 26 year old man in the face with a glass in Addlestone.
The incident took place outside the Working Men's Club in Simplemarsh Road around 9.40 on the last Saturday.
The suspect became involved in an altercation with the victim outside the club before hitting him and leaving on foot.
Surrey officers arrived quickly but could not locate the suspect after a search of the area.
He's described as a white man of a large build, in his 40s or 50s and had a large brown dog.
Anyone who was near the club at the time is asked to contact Surrey police or Crimestoppers.

Thefts of Catalytic Converters
Motorists are warned to be vigilant after a spate of thefts of catalytic converters from cars in Runnymede, Elmbridge and Spelthorne.
Over the August bank holiday weekend, six thefts were reported, with three of these taking place at Thorpe Park.
Detective Inspector Stewart Leahy of Staines CID says it only take a few minutes to remove the converter which is then sold for its scrap value but it can cost more than a thousand pounds to replace.
Owners of cars with the converters are advised to consider etching them with an ID number which can be traced, or use welded bolts or protective sleeves to deter thieves.

Charges in Croydon Murder
A man was charged on Friday, 2nd September, with the murder of 20 year old Jonathan Barnes on the August 23 at an address in Morland Road in Croydon.
25 year old Daniel Tesfay was also charged with possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.
He's been remanded in custody to appear before Croydon Magistrates' court Saturday.

RTA New Malden
Several cars have collided on the A3 in New Malden.
Police were called to the accident just off South Lane at six o’clock.
Two people have been taken to hospital with minor injuries.
The road remains blocked because of a fuel spillage(correct at 7pm).

Tooting women convicted over riots
A woman from Tooting has been jailed for helping her daughter load up stolen goods into the back of their car during the rioting.
41 year old Denise Carnegie claimed she was confused about where the shopping trolley of goods had come from, when she found her daughter.
The mother will now spend 10 months behind bars.

Wandsworth rejects loan
Wandsworth Council is saying no to a loan offered by the government to help deal with the borough’s housing.
Instead they’re to set up a 250 million pound bond, which will pay for improving the quality of housing.
Usually, the Government would issue a Public Works Loan. However the borough found their interest rates were too high.

Local stations are overcrowded
Eleven key train stations, including Clapham Junction, Surbiton and Wimbledon, have been listed as needing action to ease overcrowding.
The Network Rail list also includes Victoria and Charing Cross as well as Liverpool's Lime Street.
It says action should be taken to identify the measures needed to relieve passenger congestion by 2019.

Donation for Sutton Cancer Centre
The Chairman of House of Fraser is one of those who has helped raise almost seven hundred thousand pounds for charity.
54 year old Don McCarthy presented a cheque to Royal Marsden hospital bosses this morning.
His wife Diane died from cancer four years ago.
The cash was raised from donations from customers using House of Fraser stores.
The money will be spent on The Oak Centre for Children and Young people which opens at the Sutton base later this month.

Body found on the railway
South West Train services are still severely delayed this afternoon.
It’s after police discovered a body on a railway line near to Windsor and Eton Riverside just before 10am.
They are treating the death as unexplained.
Trains through Staines were suspended as a result with a bus service running instead.

M3 accidents
The M3 has been closed off at the same junction for the second time in the space of two days.
Three lanes were blocked by an accident just before two o’clock this afternoon at Junction 2 for Thorpe.
The accident was quickly moved to the hard shoulder.
Yesterday a lorry caught fire at the same junction causing a diesel spill.
The southbound carriageway was shut into the early hours of this morning.

Fulham have signed experienced defender Zdenek Grygera.
The Czech Republic international, who was last at Juventus, has agreed a one-year deal, with an option of a further year.

Drunk doctor struck off
A surgeon’s assistant working at Epsom & St Helier Hospital has been struck off after turning up drunk for work.
Graham Whittall was apparently slurring his words and unsteady on his feet while he was monitoring a patient.
He’d been helping prepare patients for anaesthetic and assisting surgeons at the hospital for 20 years.
But a senior surgeon said his assistant’s behaviour made him feel ‘vulnerable and afraid’.

Tooting’s arts and culture scene has received a boost.
Four new artists’ studios will be created in the town centre.
Wandsworth Council's planning committee approved a revised set of plans that will see a new building just off Tooting High Street developed as artists' studios.

Wallington bogus bank scam
Three incidents of an emerging bogus bank scam have been reported in Wallington.
Surrey Police are warning people about the scam in which the victims receive a phone call from someone claiming to be from their bank.
The caller checks the victim’s details, including asking for their pin number, then informs them that they need a new card.
The victim's advised that someone will be visiting them shortly to collect their old card.
A person, dressed to look like a courier, then arrives at the door to take the card.
In addition to the Wallington incidents, pensioners have been targeted in Leatherhead, Ashstead and Epsom.

Burglary in Walton
Police are appealing for witnesses after an elderly man in Walton was threatened in his home on Rodney Road and burgled .
The victim in his eighties was asleep on his sofa when he was woken, threatened and held down by the offender who stole his wallet.
The incident took place on Wednesday 17th August at around 10pm.
The suspect, who entered the property through an insecure back door is described as a white man, in a black hooded top with the hood pulled over his face

Travel misery on the M3
The M3 may remain closed at Thorpe until the early hours.
It’s after a lorry caught fire at lunchtime on the southbound stretch.
No one was injured but diesel has leaked across the carriageway, damaging the road surface.

Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham are all being linked with signing Chelsea midfielder Yossi Benayoun.
The Israeli has struggled to nail down a first team place and could be surplus to requirements if the Blues sign Luka Modric.

Police investigate rape in Esher
Police are investigating reports of a rape in Esher.
Officers were on the scene yesterday morning at the car park at the rear of the Post Office on the High Street.
It’s thought the attack happened some time between 1.30 and 3.45 in the early hours of yesterday morning.
Anyone who may have been in the area at the time is urged to contact Surrey Police.

Crisis loan handed out in Clapham
An independent hair salon on Lavender Hill in Clapham Junction is the first looted shop to receive a crisis loan from Wandsworth Council.
The owner of Ocean Hair Salon, has been offered £2,000 to help fund a new shop front, restore fixtures and fitting and reinstate stock and equipment.
Under the council's streamline support scheme loans or grants are available to all traders which came under attack during recent riots.

Police in Surrey are warning people about an emerging scam.

Lewis Hamilton takes the blame
Lewis Hamilton has apologised to his McLaren team and taken the blame after crashing out of the Belgium Grand Prix at the week-end.
The Woking based driver crashed out after colliding with Sauber's Kobayashi.
Immediately after the incident in Spa, before revising his opinion online, Hamilton said he didn't believe he was culpable for the collision.

Man charged over hoax calls
A man has been charged by police investigating a hoax phone call in July - claiming a bomb was at one of two major British airports.
31-year-old Kevin Flynn is accused of calling police - saying a bomb was being taken on board a New York-bound aircraft at either Heathrow or Gatwick airports.
Flynn from Bognor Regis, will appear at Worthing Magistrates' Court tomorrow.

Police identify victim in Croydon
Police have named a man shot dead in Croydon.
20 year old Jonathan Barnes from Lewisham died last week after suffering head injuries in Morland Road.
Police say the suspect is a black male in his twenties.
He was wearing a dark hooded jacket, dark jeans and trainers that are believed to be adidas.
He was seen leaving the address and running towards the junction with
Beckford Road.
No arrests have been made at this stage.
