School pays tribute to former pupil, Cricketer Tom Maynard
The 23 year old died just after 5am, after being hit by a District Line tube train near Wimbledon Park.
Millfield is saddened by news of the death of former pupil Tom Maynard, professional cricketer for Surrey, at just 23.
Tom attended Millfield from 2002-2007, impressing with his displays for the school's first XI.
After school he joined Glamorgan County Cricket Club before moving to Surrey in 2011.
A promising young batsmen, Tom toured Bangladesh and Sri Lanka with the England Lions earlier this year.
Our thoughts are with Tom's family, friends and colleagues, and also with the teachers and coaches at the school who remember Tom.
Tom's timeline to success;
Born in Cardiff, Maynard attended Millfield School and made his way up the ranks with Glamorgan, starting in the county's Under-17s side at the age of 15.
By the time he was 16, he had reached the Glamorgan 2nd XI. He made his debut for the Glamorgan First XI on 10 June 2007, playing in a Friends Provident Trophy match against the Gloucestershire Gladiators at Colwyn Bay.
He hit 71 runs off 75 balls, including seven fours and three sixes. Maynard's Twenty20 Cup debut soon followed, as he played in Glamorgan's three-run defeat to the Warwickshire Bears on 24 June 2007
Tom signed for Surrey from Glamorgan in January 2011.
Capable of hitting boundaries all around the wicket and particularly dangerous in the One Day game, Maynard enjoyed an exceptional first season at Surrey and was rewarded with selection in the England Performance squad.
As well as breaking 1,000 first-class runs in a season for the first time, Maynard also scored heavily in the CB40 and FLt20 – not missing a single game throughout the campaign.
Earlier this year he was selected to play for the Sylhet Royals in the inaugural BPL T20 competition, where he hoped, providing he was available he would return next year.
