Pensioner rescued in Sutton

Borough Commander Guy Ferguson has thanked two PCSOs who came to the rescue of a pensioner after her electric mobility scooter she was riding broke down.

Gwen Larner, aged 78, had just finished her shopping in the High Street on Tuesday 4th September shortly after 1pm when her mobility scooter came to an abrupt halt.

A member of the public called police and PCSOs Helen King and Emma Nagioff, of Sutton’s Town Centre police team, helped Gwen get home to Thicket Road - pushing her mobility scooter much of the way.

PCSO King. “We just wanted to make sure Gwen got home safely.”

PCSO Nagioff said: “Gwen’s now got our team’s contact details so she can get in touch with us on her mobile phone if she needs our help again.”

Gwen has since had the officers round for a cup of tea to say thank you and penned her gratitude to Sutton Borough Commander Guy Ferguson. Gwen even took the time and trouble to deliver the ‘thank you’ note in person at Sutton Police Station. Mr Ferguson thanked the officers on Tuesday 9th October.

Gwen, who has two sons, 14 grandchildren and three great grandchildren, said: “The officers did an excellent job after I had become stranded outside Marks & Spencer. I was petrified about what I was going to do, then someone called the police and the officers came along to help. They were wonderful,” she said.

Sutton's Town Centre team can be contacted on 020 8721 2710.
