Richmond charity honoured with an award
A charity who work with homeless people in an around Richmond have been announced as the winner of the Best Charity Award.
SPEAR have been working since 1987 and have successfully transformed thousands of lives.
He award was presented by Richmond Park MP, Zac Goldsmith and Councillor Steve Knight.
Chief Executive for the charity Stuart Nevill, says that they are grateful for the award, and are confident it will help further work with homelessness in the community.

Hunt for sex attacker in Woking
Surrey Police are investigating a sex attack Thursday night on a woman in Woking.
The incident happened in Walton Road, near to the junction with Grove Road around 11.
The woman in her 20s was walking on her own when she was approached by an Asian man who spoke to her. He followed her and then sexually assaulted her.
He’s described as being in his early 20s, around 5 foot 6- 7 inches tall, slim with a mole under his left eye.
Anyone with information to help the police with their enquiries is asked to contact them on 101 or call Crimestoppers.

Pop-up shop opens in Worcester Park
You Are Here, a pop-up shop at 44 Central Road, Worcester Park, has opened to provide a useful community resource in an otherwise empty space.
The shop, opened with support from a company called Meanwhile Space which finds uses for empty shop units, will host a variety of cultural and commercial events aimed at bringing renewed life into the area by helping to generate footfall, promote civic pride and forge stronger community links.

Fatal Stabbing In Putney
A murder investigation’s been launched after a man was stabbed on Fulham High Street on Thursday evening.
Police were called at about five-to-seven after reports of an assault to find a man is his 60’s suffering from stab wounds.
Paramedics attended to the man but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
A man in his late 20’s has been arrested in connection with the incident and remains in police custody.

Calling all young vocalists
Young vocalists from Surrey are being urged to audition for their part in a huge concert taking place at Wembley Arena in March.
The Voice in a Million Choir is on the hunt for talented youngsters aged between 7 and 19 to take part in next year’s event.
It’s all to raise awareness of fostering and adoption. The auditions are taking place at Addlestone Community Centre on Sunday.

Twickenham Station Plans Halted
Plans to redevelop Twickenham station are under threat.
Twickenham Residents Action Group has challenged the proposals in the High Court and been granted a Judicial Review.
Richmond Council had approved the plans in December 2011.
The refurbishment would include a new entrance and ticket hall, lifts to all platforms a public plaza and flats above.

Thornton Heath Electrical Tests
People living in Thornton Heath are being offered free electric blanket tests today, Thursday the 25th.
The tests, which have been organised by Croydon’s Trading Standard’s team, will check heating elements, switches, and wiring.
They’ll also ensure all of the blankets looked at are in good condition and present no danger when in use.
The testing session will take place until 4.30pm at Age UK Croydon in Brigstock Road.

Kingston Murder
A murder investigation is underway following this morning’s knife attack in Kingston.
20 year old Jamie Sanderson from Southall was attacked inside the Oceana club on Clarence Street just before three thirty.
Paramedics treated him at the scene and he was rushed to hospital but died en route.
A 22 year old man has been arrested and remains in custody at a South London police station.

Stars out in Teddington
Residents in Teddington have been celebrity-spotting with the latest production underway at the TV studios in the town.
Men Behaving Badly actor Neil Morrissey and Sarah Alexander who appeared in The Green Wing have been filming Me and Mrs Jones.
Sacred Heart Primary school in Saint Mark’s Road has been used as a location but with a renamed title – Meadwell Primary School.

Death of TV man with link to Surrey Comet
A TV presenter who started his career with the Surrey Comet has died.
Mike Morris went on to be anchorman of Good Morning Britain in 1987 and he then
presented TV AM with Anne Diamond who’s paid tribute to him.

Retailers fined for trading offences
Two retailers have been fined and ordered to pay substantial costs after being convicted of various offences at Croydon Magistrates Court.
Zakir Achha, 40, was convicted of selling counterfeit football memorabilia, phone covers and key rings at Good News in Times Square, Sutton. He pleaded guilty to 52 offences and magistrates, sitting on 16 October, fined him £1,000 and ordered him to contribute £500 towards prosecution costs.
On the same day Peter Capone, 69, pleaded guilty to selling tobacco to underage consumers at The Kiosk at Wallington Station.
The court heard that this was Mr Capone’s third conviction for the same offence and he was fined £650 and ordered to contribute £500 towards costs.

Young sporting stars honoured at awards ceremony in Kingston
Youngsters from the World of sports were celebrated at the Youth Achievement Awards at Kingston's Guildhall on Thursday night.
The event was hosted by Leatherhead based charity Lifetrain.
The Lifetrain Trust is an education and personal development charity for young people across Surrey.
It works with young people who are at risk of growing up without the skills needed to progress in life and fulfil their potential.
It is there to get them back on track to a better life with training, education and work opportunities.
The team strongly believes that providing support at a young age is the best way to divert young people from crime and help them have a better life.
Karate Champion Sophie Santillo from Mortlake, pictured centre, was awarded the Junior Sports Achiever of the Year accolade.
She made the England junior team last year and her England debut at the World Karate Federation’s junior world championships last October.

Sara Payne joins new campaign for child sex victims
The mother of murdered Hersham schoolgirl Sarah Payne is one of the Sun newspapers new Justice Campaigners.
Dr Sara Payne will be working with leading child protection expert Shy Keenan in the fight for child sex victims through a feature in the newspaper.
Sara’s pioneering work was responsible for the introduction of Sarah’s Law which gives parents access to information about paedophiles in local communities.
