Flying to the Moon – The MoonWalk London 2013

On Saturday night, 17,000 thousand women and men set off from Battersea Power Station to take part in The MoonWalk London, organised by grant-making breast cancer charity Walk The Walk.

In true Walk The Walk tradition, wearing brightly decorated bras, they power walked either a Full Moon (26.2 miles) or Half Moon (13.1 miles) through the streets of the capital at midnight, raising money and awareness for breast cancer.

More than £3 million had already been raised before the first foot had even crossed the starting line.

The theme for this year’s event was Fly me to the Moon

There was everything from Aliens to Astronauts, Star Wars to Star Trek, and Men in Black to ET!

Celebrity walkers included Comedienne Jennifer Saunders and actress Sally Phillips.

Jennifer Saunders said, Walk The Walk is a fantastic charity that raises tonnes of money whilst raising awareness of breast cancer, and The MoonWalk is fun! It’s a great event that makes you feel good – everyone should do it at least once.

Nina Barough CBE Founder of Walk The Walk said What a tremendous night, an iconic event in an iconic location. Has Battersea Power Station ever seen anything like it? A sea of pink as our 17,000 walkers set off on their united challenge of completing a marathon. How amazing that these committed supporters managed to raise £3 million before even crossing the start line. I am in awe of their commitment, we couldn't do it without them.

Funds raised at The MoonWalk London are granted to support research into breast cancer, and to organisations which provide emotional and physical support for those living with cancer now.

Walk the Walk is passionate about encouraging women and men to become healthier through Power Walking and taking responsibility for their own well-being and has raised over £85 million for vital breast cancer causes, since it was launched 17 years ago.
