Call to restrict the so called "Lycra Brigade" in Richmond Park over safety fears
Cyclists in Richmond Park are a law unto themselves and need to be regulated.
That’s the view of some residents calling on Royal Parks to remind bike riders that they also need to stick to the 20mph speed limit.
The most common complaint seems to be racers travelling three or four abreast.
Listeners have told us that while they might tolerate and enjoy the annual Ride London Surrey Cycle 100, the route is not a racetrack, and was never designed to be.
One woman, who wished not to be named, claims her dog was injured by cyclists after two of them misjudged the width of the road, lost control, and veered into her path.
Kingston Councillor, and regular user of Richmond Park, Andrea Craig, says the minority are spoiling it for everyone.
We are still awaiting a statement from Parks Police.
The Royal Parks, which manages Richmond Park, issued this statement.
We have to balance the needs of everyone who uses or passes through the park including pedestrians, children, runners, horse riders, cyclists and motorists.
We urge all park users to be considerate towards each other, observe speed limits and recognise that Richmond Park is, first and foremost, a place to experience relaxation, peace and quiet and the beautiful natural surroundings. posted by Radio Jackie News Team @ 10:38 am
