Water works causing havoc once again in Ottershaw

Business owners in Ottershaw are calling on Affinity Water to stop works that have started today on the A320.

They claim trade is suffering and they were never informed that the works, lasting three weeks, would be taking place.

Residents say the first they heard about it was when a sign appeared last week.

Noah Le Mare owns Wey Farm Boarding Kennels. He says the closure has come at the worst time for him – when people go away.

Statement from Affinity Water:

“We are upgrading some of the underground network of pipes that supply water each day to customers in the area. This represents an investment of £0.8million. Some of the existing water mains were laid more than 50 years ago and have given many years of good service, but have now reached the end of their useful lives.

The work in Guildford Road started on 4 August and is due for completion in three weeks time. Letters were delivered to residents in the area directly affected on 14 July and a further letter was sent to businesses and properties on the diversion route on 28 July. We have also visited local businesses to discuss the diversion route and access.

This work will be carried out within a road closure with diversion signs in place locally. Access will be maintained for residents and businesses.

We would like to thank customers for their patience while we carry out this important work."
