Police to investigate unsolved crimes after Levi Bellfield admits killing Walton schoolgirl Milly Dowler
A number of unsolved crimes are being reviewed by police, after serial-killer Levi Bellfield admitted to the murder of Walton schoolgirl Milly Dowler for the first time.
He was jailed for life in 2011 for the murders of Marshal McDonnell in Hampton, Amelie Delagrange in Twickenham, and the attempted murder of Kate Sheedy in a hit and run in Isleworth.
But he only confessed to Milly's murder, while being asked about a possible accomplice yesterday.
The Met Police has confirmed it's speaking to other forces about new information relating to criminal investigations.
Surrey Police has issued this statement.
Detectives from the Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team have arrested and released a man in his 40s in relation to allegations of rape and assisting an offender.
The arrest was made following new information regarding an accomplice being involved with Levi Bellfield (who now calls himself Yusuf Rahim) in the abduction and rape, but not murder of Milly Dowler.
Police have thoroughly investigated this claim and as the final part of their inquiries made the arrest.
The man arrested has subsequently been released with no further action as no evidence has been found to support the allegations.
When questioned about the murders by Surrey Police, Bellfield constantly replied no comment.
