The verdicts are in for #PlaneStupid protesters
13 people have been found guilty of aggravated trespass and entering a security restricted area after staging a protest on Heathrow’s north runway.
The activists from the group ‘Plane Stupid’ took the action last July to demonstrate against emissions from aircraft.
Following a two week trial, all 13 were found guilty this afternoon.
The protesters made their way onto the north runway by cutting through a perimeter fence line.
They then built a metal tripod structure and locked themselves to it.
Sentencing has been adjourned until next month, although the judge says custodial sentences can be expected.
Ellen Gibson with the campaign group, describes the moment the verdicts came in.
Superintendent Andy Jones, from the Met's Aviation Policing, said:
"While it is the role of the police to facilitate peaceful protest it is also our role to uphold the law and to allow businesses and the public to go about their lawful business.
When protesters encroach into the airside environment they not only cause major disruption but also significant danger to themselves and aircraft.
These convictions send out a clear message that such behaviour will not be tolerated."

Sentencing takes place on Wednesday, the 24th of February.
