Last chance to have your say on social housing in Kingston

There are just 10 days left to have your say on the future of social housing in Kingston- as an 8 month consultation comes to an end.

The Council have said they need to continue to modernise the service in the borough due to increasing demand for social housing and budget cuts.

Suggestions include privatising the management of facilities but remain owned by the Council- or continue to run and manage them but with a few changes.

The statements on each proposal are outlined below:

Option 1 - Owned and managed by the Council

The Council will continue to manage some or all housing services and service staff, but will introduce new ways of working and efficiencies to meet the budget gap whilst maintaining high quality customer service. To deliver housing services on a smaller and more efficient budget, we will need to consider all areas of how we manage services, including things like office accommodation, staffing and the terms and conditions of our maintenance contracts.

Option 2 - Owned by the Council but managed by a different organisation

An external organisation will manage some or all housing services, although we will continue to act as Landlord. Staff members employed with us could transfer into the employment of the new organisation(s). Service specifications will be developed and managed by us, according to service needs.

More information on how to get involved can be found here
