Elderly man dies after collision in Hammersmith

An elderly man who was hit by a car on Saturday evening has sadly passed away in hospital.

Police were called to Hammersmith Road at around 9:30pm last night after reports suggested a silver Mercedes had hit the man, then failed to stop.

The vehicle has since been located and it was a BMW M5, rather than the Mercedes which was first thought.

The man was taken to a central London hospital but died in the early hours of this morning.

Police are investigating the incident and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

Officers would like to speak with anyone who saw the collision, or who saw the car leave the scene. They are also particularly keen to speak with anyone who saw the car being abandoned.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit's witness appeal line on 020 8543 5157 or via 101.
