Tributes pour in for Croydon gym instructor

More than 100 people have paid tribute on social media to a "well-loved" young gym instructor from Croydon who died after suffering a sudden heart attack earlier this week.

29 year-old John Hammar worked at the Fit4Less gym and was at the gym when he went into cardiac arrest on Thursday with both staff and paramedics doing all they could to try and
resuscitate him.

Mala Edwards, the manager of the gym on Stanley Park Road, has posted a statement from the company on Facebook and also paid tribute to her "best friend".

She said: "We are completely devastated and cannot imagine life without this amazing kind, generous soul who was loved by all. RIP to the best gym instructor, my best friend and brother we will miss you so very much."

The gym also released a statement:

"We are extremely upset to report that our well-loved member of staff, John Hammar, suddenly died of a heart attack [on Thursday, March 23].

"Our staff administered CPR immediately and called the paramedics who arrived shortly after. Despite attempts to resuscitate him, they were unable to do so.

"John's family have been informed and our hearts go out to them at this difficult time. John was like a member of the family to us and he will be incredibly missed by us all.

"We would like to praise our staff for their quick and brave actions, [and they] will be receiving full support through this hard time. Also, thank you to the paramedics who fought incredibly hard to save John.

"We would also like to thank people for their kind messages."
