A scrap metal dealer from Surrey who hid jewels in his office ceiling has been found guilty of handling stolen goods.

Charles Matthews of Virginia Water claimed the 50 diamonds and emeralds had been a gift from a friend, and he didn’t know they were stolen.

The jewels found at London City Metals in 2015 included uncut diamonds worth around 50-thousand pounds and emerald earrings worth over 30-thousand.

He’ll be sentenced later this month.
