A Texan student who diverted a transatlantic jet after downing a litre of Bacardi and attacking BA staff and passengers has been jailed.

Jeffrey Libby had been dumped by text and started drinking when the flight hit turbulence shortly after leaving Heathrow in December.

The 21 year old spat at people, assaulted a hostess and bit the hand of a passenger who tried to restrain him on a packed flight to America.

The pilot was forced to turn back to Heathrow and dump 20 tonnes of fuel costing the airline hundreds of thousands of pounds.

He’s been jailed for 6 months.
