Is there a 'Croydon accent'?

A police appeal in Sussex has led to a debate over whether people from Croydon have a distinctive accent.

The search was related to a gunpoint robbery at a newsagents in Crawley before Christmas.

The description of the gunman noted that he had a "Croydon accent".

Some residents on social media said they’d been told by others they had a distinctive way of speaking, whilst others suggested it was just a generic south London accent.
