Carshalton Athletic’s promotion aspirations has had a recent boost as the club continued its fine form over one of its league rivals

The Robins hadn’t lost to hosts Lewes in eight meetings ahead of their trip to the south coast last Saturday.

And a solitary goal via forward Christie Pattisson on the stroke of half-time was enough for that hex to extend to nine games.

The 1-0 victory lifted Carshalton up to fourth in the Isthmian Premier League and goalkeeper Kleton Perntreou, whom assisted the goal, believes winning must become a habit for his team now.

“It was a really tough game, and the windy conditions didn’t help, but you can’t always win playing beautiful football,” said Perntreou.

“It doesn’t really matter how we win at the moment though, we just need to keep taking three points.

“We were very satisfied in the dressing room afterwards as we played as a solid unit and beat an opponent that never gave up.”

Both sides created chances throughout but Perntreou made three good saves which contributed to an eleventh clean sheet of the season.

Plus it was the goalkeeper's quick thinking in first-half added time that led to the goal; Pattisson got away on the long clearance and his half-saved shot crept over the line despite Lewes' Frankie Chappell lunging in to clear.

"I’ve tried that a few times this season as the likes of Christie and Ricky Korboa are very quick,” Perntreou added.

“It worked perfectly this time though, Christie did his part and the referee’s assistant spotted the ball had crossed the line."

Next up for Carshalton Athletic is a home game against bottom club Wingate and Finchley on Saturday 18th January, kick-off 3pm.
