Excitement is building at Colston Avenue as Carshalton Athletic entertain current Isthmian Premier League leaders Worthing this Saturday.

The Robins will want to get their promotion charge back on track after taking only one point from their last two matches.

It was a failure to convert numerous chances against both Kingstonian and Haringey Borough that cost Carshalton valuable points as they slipped out of the play-off spots on goal difference.

And player/boss Peter Adeniyi believes his side just needs a little tweaking to ensure their promotion dreams don’t falter.

“It’s the story of our season to be honest. We create so many chances in every game but are failing to convert them,” said Adeniyi.

“No-one goes out meaning to miss opportunities but we keep encouraging the players and I believe it’ll come good sooner rather than later.

“Worthing are on a magnificent run and it’ll be a tough game on Saturday, but we are still right in the mix. There are enough points to play for and a win against them would really help us to kick on.”

Carshalton found themselves 2-0 down at half-time against Kingstonian last weekend as Ks goalkeeper Rob Tolfrey performed miracles in front of his goal.

He brilliantly denied Christie Pattisson, Ricky Korboa, Luke Read, Ernold Haxhiu and Omar Koroma throughout meaning it took something special from Lewis White to beat him in an eventual 3-1 defeat.

The Robins then travelled to North London on Monday evening and found themselves two goals behind again, although the Haringey defence did clear two shots off their own line during a frantic first-half.

But two goals in two minutes, an 18 yard curler from Pattisson and a close range strike by captain Paris Hamilton-Downes, meant Carshalton avoided a potential second defeat on the spin.

“It may seem like we struggled in both those games but I would say we gifted four of the five goals we conceded,” added Adeniyi.

“That’s another thing which needs to change as we haven’t lost too many games after taking the lead this season.”

Worthing arrive at Colston Avenue having not lost a league game since early October, while Carshalton’s last home defeat in the league came back in September.

Carshalton Athletic vs Worthing is on Saturday, KO 3pm.
