Rugby Union 6 Nations gets underway

Rugby Union fans do not have to wait any longer for the start of the 6 Nations Tournament.

This weekend France get the competition underway with a home advantage against Italy. Scotland play host to England and on Sunday Ireland are looking for revenge against the nation which knocked them out of the world cup - Wales.

With changes to the management of France, Italy and England, this tournament is wide-open.

A hold on Surrey community libraries

On National Libraries Day, plans to create community libraries in Surrey have been kept on hold Friday by the High Court.

It backed an earlier temporary order which stopped progressing the scheme before there is a judicial review of the Council's plans.

But Byfleet library -- which is due to launch today – can go ahead.

The Court decided a judicial review should take place the week starting the 20th of February.

Surrey wants communities to take over the day to day running of 10 smaller libraries.

Ealing stabbing

Police are appealing for witnesses to a stabbing in Ealing Broadway.

The victim was stabbed in the arm at premises in The Mall just before 6 pm on Thursday, the 19th of January.

It's believed he was approached by four men. One of them spoke to him and tried to steal his mobile, using a knife to threaten him.

The victim refused to hand over the phone and ran off but was caught in Mr. Ben Barbers Shop.

The suspect fled and may have got on a 207 bus.

He's described as black, aged between 18 and 25 and is about 5 foot 8 inches tall. He was wearing a baseball cap, dark puffer jacket and dark blue baggy jeans.

Chiswick man jailed for child pornography

A paedophile in Chiswick hoarded so much obscene material in his home that it took a seven tonne lorry to take it away.

It was found at the two bedroom flat of 48 year old Joseph Faul in August 2010.

He pleaded guilty to 19 charges including making and possessing indecent photos of children and possessing extreme pornography.

He was given a 12 months jail sentence at Isleworth Crown Court on Friday and placed on the sex offenders' register for 10 years.

Ed Davey speaking on his new role after taking over as Energy Secretary

Chris Huhne's successor at the Department for Energy is describing his decision to stand down from the cabinet as a sad day for Whitehall.

Ed Davey says Mr Huhne had a real vision for a green economy.

The Eastleigh MP is facing charges of perverting the course of justice over an alleged speeding offence.

Three injured in Bedfont crash

Three people have been injured after a collision involving a bus and a car in Bedfont this afternoon.

The crash happened on Staines Road at the Junction with Hatton road just before two o’clock.

The injuries aren’t being described as serious.

Boost for health in Tooting

A new medical centre is to be built in Tooting.

It will house 23 consultation rooms, four treatment areas and office space.

Existing buildings in Tooting High Street will be demolished to make way for the centre over the ground and first floors.

The scheme also features a pharmacy.

Kingston and Surbiton MP Ed Davey has been appointed as Energy Secretary, replacing fellow Lib Dem Chris Huhne who's stepped down from his post.

There have been some other changes in government.

Norman Lamb takes on a role as Parliamentary Under Secretary at the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills.

Meanwhile Jenny Willott is to become an Assistant Government Whip.

Energy Secretary to be prosecuted

The Energy secretary Chris Huhne is to be prosecuted over allegations he aksed his ex wife to take a speeding penalty for him.

The Liberal Democrat MPand Vicky Pryce face charges of perverting the course of justice.

They're due to appear before Westminster Magistrates Court on Feburary 16th.

Meanwhile in the last few minutes - Chris Huhne says he's innocent of all charges and announces he's standing down as energy secretary.

Reports coming in suggest Kingston and Surbiton MP Ed Davey could move into the cabinet to replace Huhne.

Pensioner dies following accident in Leatherhead

A woman has died in hospital following a vehicle accident in Leatherhead yesterday afternoon.

A single decker coach and a Honda Jazz car were involved in the crash on Randalls Road.

The woman, in her 70's, was a passenger in the Honda and had to be cut from the car by fire-fighters.

She was taken to a London hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.

She's yet to be formally identified.

Surrey Police are appealing for information.

Ewell woman found guilty of benefit fraud

A woman from Ewell has been found guilty of benefit fraud.

Lorraine Flower fraudulently claimed over 6-thousand 800 pounds after failing to declare that she'd received two payments of approximately 50-thousand pounds from the sale of her former matrimonial home in 2008.

This affected her entitlement to housing and council tax benefit.

Redhill Magistrates Court ordered Flower to repay all the fraudulently claimed benefits.

She was also fined 465-pounds.

Thornton Heath mother meets gang members

The mother of a teenager murdered in Thornton Heath, has met gang members to try and deter them from a life of crime.

The group, aged 14 to 20, sat and listened to a number of people affected by gang crime, including mum Nicola Dyer.

Her son, 16 year old Shakilus Townsend, was stabbed to death in a planned honey trap attack in 2008.

After the meeting at Wood Green Crown Court on Tuesday, Ms Dyer said those involved in gangs need to hear how their crimes have affected victims.

The self-proclaimed ‘star of the station’ was doing his very first zumba class – wearing only a mankini.

This is how he got on.

He wasn't alone though, as well as a class of regular Zumba devotees, he was joined by Jackie's Jane Sims, Jan Ashley and Lucy Mayer, pictured by Darren Graham.

Putney MP ditches two-year MOT idea

Plans to introduce vehicle checks every two years instead of every year have been abandoned.

Police hunt thieves in Cobham

Police are appealing for information to trace thieves who stole 18-thousand pounds worth of tools from Cobham.

The storage huts and containers on Beechwood Drive were broken into last week.

An angle grinder, cordless drills, several sanders, a hedge trimmer and leaf blower were among the items taken.

O'Shea extends Quins contract
