Hospices confirm merger

The Boards of Shooting Star based in Hampton and CHASE in Guildford have decided to proceed with their proposed merger. The decision is subject to obtaining the necessary legal and regulatory consents, which they hope will be sometime before the end of the year.

In the last few months, they have undertaken detailed work and had discussions with the families they support, staff, volunteers and supporters; and now both charities believe more firmly than ever that by coming together in this way they can provide a more flexible and sustainable service.

When the merger happens, the name of the new organisation will be Shooting Star CHASE. David King, the current Chief Executive of CHASE, will be appointed Chief Executive of the new organisation.

It costs a combined total of over six million pounds a year to keep both sites open and running. Only a small Government grant is received. It's hoped this will be boosted by the merger.

The team told Jackie News;

This is very exciting news for Shooting Star and CHASE. The merger means we can continue to keep our promise to offer the best service possible now and into the future.
