Detectives investigating linked attacks on lone women in the Streatham area last month and in December, have arrested a man

A 28-year-old man was detained earlier in Thornton Heath and is in custody at a south west London police station.

The offences, which took place within around three hours of each other, have been linked forensically.

The first offence happened at around 10pm on Sunday, the 20th of December, in Challice Way, Brixton.

The victim, a 29-year-old woman, was attacked from behind by a man.

He punched her, knocking her to the floor and continued the assault until he was disturbed by a member of the public. The suspect then ran away from the scene towards Hartwell Close.

At approximately 1am on Monday, the 21st of December, the same man struck again.

This time the victim - a 20-year-old woman - was walking along Streatham Common South, when she realised she was being followed by a man.

He followed her into Covington Way before attacking her from behind in an alleyway that runs into Recreation Ground.

The suspect then forced the victim to the ground and sexually assaulted her before making off from the scene.

This arrest is also linked to an attack at around 2.30am on Sunday, the 27th of March, where a woman was sexually assaulted in Granville Gardens, also in Streatham.

The victim, a woman aged in her 20s was walking along Granville Close when she was attacked from behind.
