Downing Street is backing the housing secretary, over claims he tried to save a Tory donor millions of pounds in taxes

Robert Jenrick is accused of intervening in a huge planning project run by media mogul Richard Desmond.

He approved the east London development, before overturning his own decision.

Shadow communities secretary Steve Reed, who’s also the MP for Croydon North, initially made the complaint.
