However, The Times has now reported Jenrick got involved after pressure from prominent Tories and party donors.
A Jockey Club spokesman said it believed its application had “considerable merit” and offered “social and economic benefits.”
Mr Jenrick is currently embroiled in a ‘cash for favours’ row concerning tax breaks on a development in London’s docklands.
