People are being told to “hang up the phone straight away” if they believe they’re being targeted with courier fraud

The scammers impersonate an official from the police or the victim’s bank, and ask for personal information.

It follows a spike in cases in Surrey, with 20 reports and six successful attempts.

The highest loss is believed to be £22,000.
