Richmond Council says it has secured over £250,000 from Transport for London to make the change.
Work is due to start within weeks; the barriers will be allowed to stay in place for up to 18 months.
Mandatory white lines will be marked with so-called ‘wands’ and ‘orcas’ to help set out a more defined cycle route.
