The City of London Corporation has donated £200,000 to Hammersmith based Maggie’s Cancer charity

The money has come from its City Bridge Trust.

Maggie’s, which has 23 centres across the UK, will use the funds to employ a specialist welfare rights and benefits adviser.

The person in the role will help those diagnosed with cancer seek financial support.

Last year, the charity helped people with cancer claim nearly £38m in benefits and grants.

Maggie's says:

"We are very grateful to the City Bridge Trust for this generous donation.

Cancer has a huge impact on people's lives and people living with cancer have found the last few months especially hard with delays to treatments, social isolation and their financial worries amplified.

Our centres are here to support people with every aspect of a cancer diagnosis from the emotional to the practical.

This money will help us to support more people with the financial impact of cancer, from loss of earnings to travelling to appointments and so much more."
