Hounslow Council says new Coronavirus data released about the borough is “not a cause for concern.”
It was reported last week that the borough has some of the highest newly confirmed Covid-19 cases of the virus outside of Leicester.
The figures, from Public Heath England, reveal Hounslow’s seen 1,053 cases since the end February; 25 in a 7 day period.
These cases are so called “Pillar 2” cases.
Pillar 1 is swab testing in Public Health England labs and NHS hospitals for those with a clinical need, and health and care workers.
Pillar 2 is swab testing for the wider population, as set out in government guidance.
A council spokesman has now issued a statement saying;
“These extra Pillar 2 cases, recorded over several months, are not a cause for concern for how coronavirus is being managed.
“Like all London boroughs, we are working closely with Public Health England to monitor new cases.
“We have a robust outbreak control plan in place and are able to quickly identify any need for immediate intervention.”
