The leader of Merton Council has expressed disappointment after the Improving Healthcare Together committee decided to build a new specialist hospital in Sutton

Councillor Stephen Alambritis felt “the needs of Merton’s residents have been pushed aside”.

This morning, NHS leaders approved plans for the new hospital and investment in Epsom and St Helier hospitals, costing a total of £500 million.

A range of measures including transport and travel, bed numbers and services for older residents and more deprived communities will be addressed in the plans.
