“A critical piece of London’s infrastructure cannot be allowed to crumble into the Thames”

That’s the view of Richmond Cllr Alexander Ehmann who wants the Government to step in to help fund Hammersmith Bridge’s repairs.

The Grade II listed crossing was closed off completely last night after the heat wave exacerbated on-going structural damage.

The repair bill is though to be as much as £140 million.
