An emergency call was made in the early hours of the 6th of August along the Portsmouth Road.
Officers tried to engage with the man from the shore but he was struggling to remain calm and began drifting downstream.
PC Tom Martis-Jones gained access to a powerboat which was stored at a nearby sailing club and managed to pull the man to safety.
He’s being praised for his quick thinking and heroic actions.
