Chris Grayling has resigned from the Intelligence and Security Committee after unexpectedly losing out on the role as chairman.

The former transport secretary has written to the man who beat him to the role - Julian Lewis - to tell him he was quitting.

Sky's political correspondent Tom Rayner says the reasons for this decision are still unclear.



Mr Grayling will remain as the MP for Epsom and Ewell.
