Croydon has become the first London borough to join forces with social enterprise scheme that helps ex-offenders find work.

The aim of The Silk Mill is to help vulnerable young people break the cycle of re-offending and gain work experience.

Youngsters will take part in an intensive six-month work programme of paid work that will result in a nationally-recognised qualification.

Employers include Balfour Beatty, Thames Water and the council itself.
