Merton Council is calling for an investigation in the proposed decision to downgrade St Helier hospital

The authority has written to the Chair of the Equality and Human Rights Commission.

It’s after NHS bosses agreed last month to locate a new specialist emergency care hospital next to the Royal Marsden in Sutton.

This means acute services such as A&E and maternity will be moved out of St Helier.

The council says the move will be a disadvantage to the most deprived residents in the hospital catchment area.
