It's after Hammersmith Bridge was closed off completely due to safety concerns.
The council says it recognises contacting the army for help is an unusual approach, but the situation is "bleak".
Both Richmond and Hammersmith councils have called on the Government to commit to a temporary bridge.
This is yet to be acknowledged or confirmed.
