Richmond Council's transport committee chair tells Jackie News why the Government needs to step up to save Hammersmith Bridge.

Hammersmith Bridge should not be permanently closed.

That’s the view of Richmond’s cabinet member for transport, Alexander Ehmann.

The Grade II listed bridge was closed suddenly to vehicles over a year ago after it was found to be structurally unsafe.

Repairs are estimated to cost over £140 million, with TfL already contributing £25 million to kick-start the project.

Cllr Ehmann says the Government should be stepping up financially, even though we’re in the middle of a very costly pandemic.
