Voting is officially open for England’s 'Tree of the Year! Representing for us is The Crouch Oak in Addlestone.

This rare example of an urban ancient oak tree used to mark the Eastern edge of Windsor Forest and the kings hunting grounds.

Queen Elizabeth the first is said to have picnicked under its branches, at which point (over 400 years ago) it would have been a decent size already.

In the early nineteenth century the tree was fenced off by the landowner after a local woman stripped the bark to make love potions.

You can vote for The Crouch Oak, or one of the other trees, over on the Woodland Trust website.
