Student housing developers have mistakenly cut down a memorial tree to murdered TV presenter Jill Dando

The Acer was planted outside the former BBC office in Devon.

Exeter City Council said it was "not clearly marked" and a walnut tree was instead identified as the one that needed saving instead.

Ms Dando was shot dead on her doorstep in Fulham in 1999.
