Drug related deaths are on the rise across London and the UK and are currently at their highest level since records began in 1993.

A spike’s been seen in Richmond Upon Thames where 21 people died between 2017 and 2019 – a 50% increase over the last six years.

And it’s a similar story in Kensington and Chelsea which saw 23 deaths over the same period.

Both boroughs have people dying of drug poisoning at a greater rate than the London average.

The study, from the Office of National Statistics, also revealed a lot more people are dying from prescription drugs than ever before.
