It's moving to tier 2 from midnight on Friday into Saturday - meaning you can't mix with other households indoors.
People are also asked to avoid public transport.
The mayor, Sadiq Khan, has said on Twitter that urgent action is needed to protect people in his city and bring Covid-19 under control.
