Children have reportedly been breaking into an abandoned building at the North Cheam crossroads and climbing on the roof
It’s due for demolition, but “several weeks” of preparation still need to happen first.
Tom Hichisson from Home Group says they’ve made the site “secure for a considerable time now”.
He adds that a “small minority” appear “determined to enter the site regardless of the risks”, but they will continue to do what they can.
Tom Hichisson, senior development manager at Home Group, said: “The site has been made secure for a considerable time now and new hoarding constructed around the perimeter while soft strip works are undertaken.
“Unfortunately, there is a small minority who appear determined to enter the site regardless of the risks and any security measures we have in place, but we do take this seriously and will continue to do what we can to mitigate against these incursions.
“This is a site we have been actively managing for some time and fully aware of the challenges. We will make contact with our main contractor who is currently in possession of the site and overseeing the forthcoming demolition.
“As regards other progress, this month Home Group received consent from Sutton Borough Council for the demolition of the Victoria House site. There are still several weeks of further preparatory work to undertake prior to commencement of physical demolition of the main buildings getting underway in early spring, but we are delighted to have secured this consent.
“While those preparatory works go ahead we will continue working with a wide range of stakeholders to create a development fit for the area. Once agreed we will continue efforts towards submission of detailed plans into the council.”
