Special schools and secondary schools across the borough have started checking staff and students showing no sign of infection.
Testing for primary school staff is expected to begin soon and other front-line Council workers will also be eligible.
The idea is to identify asymptomatic carriers of coronavirus, as one in three do not show symptoms.
