Schools can now apply to some internet providers to request data increases for those without broadband and can’t afford more.

A letter calling for it was co-signed by Mitcham and Morden MP Siobhain McDonagh, who’s also campaigning for devices for children.

She says she had a call yesterday from a senior high school teacher asking if she could get mobiles with data for two pupils.

The Department for Education says over a million devices have been purchased and that education is a “national priority”.
