Work could begin on the first phase of a controversial development in New Malden in the next few weeks.

Kingston Council has submitted a planning application to build a new town square, pocket park and pedestrian link at Cocks Crescent. 

Up to 400 homes and a new leisure centre are being planned for the site just off Blagdon Road. 

But some residents say the scale of the development is too large; three similar ones are already under construction in the immediate area.
