A man has been arrested on suspicion of contaminating supermarket food with syringes in Fulham.

Shoppers have been told to throw away food bought in Sainsbury's, Tesco and Waitrose on Wednesday evening on Fulham Palace Road.

It’s not known what was in the syringes but the affected foods are thought to be processed meat and microwavable goods.

The man is being held on suspicion of contamination of goods with intention of causing public harm or anxiety.

Shops affected are;

Little Waitrose at 201-207 Fulham Palace Road

Sainsbury’s Local at 179-183 Fulham Palace Road

Tesco Express at 168-188 Fulham Palace Road.

They have all now closed and crime scenes are in place.

The food items affected are believed to be processed meat and microwaveable products. It is currently unknown as to how many items have been contaminated, or with what substance.

Members of the public are advised as a precaution to dispose of any food items bought from these supermarkets yesterday evening.

H&F Council's Environmental Health team are now working with the supermarket branches affected.

If you have any information regarding this incident, please contact the Met Police on 101 or tweet @MetCC quoting CAD 6341/25 Aug.
