The victim was sitting with his girlfriend in Capitol Square in August 2020, when 20-year-old Joshua Gunton approached the pair and kicked the man.
He was initially taken to Epsom Hospital, but then transferred to St George’s for surgery.
Gunton has been sentenced to 26 months in prison, 13 of which will be spent on license.
