Merton Council is voicing its concerns about Viridor’s plans to increase capacity at the Beddington Energy Plant.

If the application is approved, the authority says the amount of waste that can be treated there would increase by 10%.

This is in addition to the 15% increase to capacity approved by the Environment Agency only 12 months ago.

Merton Council says the increase is “unnecessary intensification of the facility that would see a rise in traffic congestion.”

We’ve contacted Viridor and The Environment Agency for comment.
